Archive Enquiry
The Gurkha Museum
is a Registered Charity and the provision of Archive research can only be made possible by the employment of an Archivist. As such we reluctantly have to charge for research carried out on your behalf.
Price
All requests for research have to be accompanied with a payment of £25. This covers approximately one hour of research and the provision of appropriate photocopies of material. In practice the time spent on research may be longer than one hour. If nothing or very little is found on an individual, event or aspect of the research requested, we will still provide photocopies of information. e.g. details of what a unit was doing when an individual was serving, although details of the individual are not given or limited.
Digital laser copies of images can be provided at £10 for black and white or £15 for colour, up to A4 in size.
You can make an enquiry by:
Using the first form below whilst using the second form to make the research fee payment, or
E-mail me at gje-h@thegurkhamuseum.co.uk, or
Write to me at The Archivist, The Gurkha Museum, Peninsula Barracks, Romsey Road, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 8TS All cheques to be made payable to “The Gurkha Museum”
When making an enquiry on an individual, please include as much information as possible. This may include rank, forenames and surname, regimental number, regiment, when served, battle or campaign served, when retired etc.
Only send me copy documentation. DO NOT send me originals.
In any request for research please include an address to which to send the results of the research.
If the research becomes protracted and prolonged beyond one hour, you will not be asked for further payment without your consent having been obtained to an estimate of the charges to be made.
We hope to respond to requests as quickly as possible but please allow 28 days for a response. Please contact us if you wish to know how the research is progressing.
