The history of the service of the Brigade of Gurkhas to the British Crown goes back as far as 1815. Since then the Brigade has conducted itself with distinction during numerous conflicts worldwide. Prior to 1997 the Brigade’s focus was in the Far East but following the handover of Hong Kong it moved to the UK which is now its base. The Brigade still maintains a battalion in Brunei and plays a full part in the British Army’s operational deployments worldwide – currently, in particular, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Balkans.

The Gurkha Welfare Trust was established in England in 1969. Its remit is to provide financial, medical and community aid to alleviate hardship and distress among Gurkha ex-servcemen of the British Crown and their dependants after they have returned to their homeland of Nepal.

The Band of the Brigade of Gurkha’s is based at Shorncliffe near Folkstone. They are a popular band and thus are always very busy and have toured to most parts of the world.

Established at Ampfield, Hampshire in 1953 by the distinguished plantsman Sir Harold Hillier. The magnificient collection of over 42,000 plants from temperate regions around the world grow in a variety of landscapes set in over 180 acres. Visit the Gurkha Chautara in the Gurkha Memorial Garden, erected to the memory of Sir Horace Kadoorie, 1902-1995, benefactor to Gurkhas and their homeland.
